The Payments team at Inspire is the quarterback behind the strategy for six world-class restaurant brands, overseeing 2.3Bn transactions annually making up over 70% of systemwide sales. We are impassioned by seeing approval rates rise, seeing a trending chargeback rate 20bps below the industry benchmark on average, and by stopping bad actors in their tracks saving the company millions of lost revenue. Payments is the heart of Inspire. Without it, or with a poorly designed or executed strategy, guests become frustrated by rising declines in the checkout experience, fraud prevails, costs skyrocket, and we don’t get paid for all the hard work that all pieces of the Inspire puzzle do every day.

The team lives and breathes four pillars that make up the foundation of Inspire’s Payments Strategy:

Create a best-in-class checkout experience for our guests. All guests must have a frictionless journey through the checkout in all channels – maximizing approvals while providing access to stored credentials in a user-friendly design. A frustrating checkout experience reduces the likelihood that guest will return. We must make payments seamless. Protect revenue and thwart bad actors through fraud mitigation. We must protect revenue by risk scoring every digital transaction, learning from chargebacks, and implementing guardrails that provide the best possible experience for good guests, while permanently denying access to bad actors by monitoring trends and common denominators. Drive continuous cost savings through payments acceptance. We can’t control the type of payments our guests choose to use in our restaurants, but we must influence it in order to reduce the cost of payment acceptance by having a maniacal focus on data, maximizing our partnerships to reduce fees and actioning on integrity-based expenses and downgrades. Maximize payments efficiency and effect through data. We cannot be successful in managing payments if we do not have constant access to meaningful data, if we do not action on what it tells us, and if we are not constantly evolving our key performance indicators and how we communicate the payments story across the organization.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:                   

  • Serves as principal support contact for all franchisee inquiries/escalations on Electronic Payment programs.
  • Escalation resource for Accounting and Financial Systems for any discrepancies or data issues
  • Onboards corporate owned locations for credit and gift – lead with POS vendors on MID and QA process
  • Resolves complex issues with franchisees by providing timely and accurate response to inquiries, as well as problem solving, research, and effective communication.
  • Provides franchisee education of Electronic Payment programs through various channels such as formal webinars, individual training, and internal education.
  • Ensures adequate QA procedures of POS var processes are adhered to by managing the Electronic Payment vendor, POS Vendor, and the Electronic Payment department’s QA process.
  • Monitors and resolves gift card ACH rejects/ not settled transactions through continual franchisee communication and resolution.
  • Ensures Gift Card programs are properly configured with the gift card processor.
  • Participates in ad hoc projects and teams, including supporting new Electronic Payment initiatives such as POS changes, advertising programs, etc.
  • Seeks continuous improvement to processes and procedures by proposing policy changes and process improvements and develops and implements modifications in collaboration with the Manager – Payment Operations.
  • Establish credibility through respectful, thoughtful interactions, attention to detail, professional integrity, and excellent financial insight
  • Assists in issue resolution with IT staff and external consultants
  • Actively manages external processing vendors
  • Works directly with advertising, collections and other internal customers

EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum: 4 yr degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Mathematics, or related field

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum: 3+ years in Treasury, Economics, Finance, Accounting or similar role
  • Preferred: 7+ years of progressive and working knowledge of payments industry and processes

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS or ABILITIES:

  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word
  • Motivated individual with excellent customer service, interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a high volume fast paced environment.

This position will prepare, review and manage all budgets corresponding to the company’s payment acceptance function, including thorough analysis of interchange and payment fee costs, gift card breakage and escheatment, volume forecasting and actuals performance. In addition, this position will collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to identify areas of opportunity to increase sales and reduce costs from Inspire’s payment activities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manages payments P&L’s on a day-to-day basis including forecasting, budgeting, and variance analysis
  • Analyzes payments P&L performance across the organization assessing interchange, chargebacks, transaction and network fees, and vendor costs – summarizing financial performance to budget, areas of opportunity, and action plans for remediation of errors
  • Partner with various Inspire Brands departments, including Accounting, IT, Commercial Services, and the Brand level teams to identify opportunities to reduce costs, provide operational efficiencies, and to increase sales through budget management.
  • Prepare period, quarterly, and ad hoc financial reports, forecasts and analysis
  • Provide detailed financial analysis of cost of payments acceptance across company restaurants and digital channels
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, annually and ad-hoc management reporting and executive summaries of budget, actuals, and performance
  • Prepares and maintains budget and forecast of gift card breakage and escheatment for all company brands and partners with other internal functional teams to prepare accruals and variance analysis
  • Define financial payment metrics across the company to advocate, educate and align key stakeholders
  • Partner with external suppliers to remediate errors and identify opportunities to drive profitability to our brands.
  • Continually evaluate the effectiveness of operational procedures and controls to maximize department productivity and minimize errors
  • Ensures timely payment of payment vendor invoices and proper allocation to business units
  • Collaborate with other functional teams in order to prepare, monitor and analyze payments budgets and correct any discrepancies
  • Summarizes financial impacts of new interchange and fees, working with internal and external partners to fully understand facts on when, how and if company would be impacted
  • Acts as a payments liaison with the company’s business units in analyzing payments financial KPI’s and handling adhoc inquiries and related matters

EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum: 4 yr degree in Finance, Accounting or Economics or related field

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS or ABILITIES

  • Minimum: 3+ years progressive experience in strategic finance, consulting, or payment related fields.
  • Hands on experience with ERP Systems (Oracle, preferred)
  • Aptitude and desire for learning new systems
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word
  • Intermediate knowledge of finance and budget management
  • Strong understanding of financial statements and foundational accounting principles
  • Excellent analytical acumen including financial modeling and variance analysis
  • Familiarity of consumer payment methods such as ACH, credit/debit cards, digital wallets and payment industry terminology such as chargebacks, interchange and breakage
  • Familiarity with gift card programs and an understanding of unclaimed property
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated learning agility, critical-thinking, troubleshooting and analytical skills
  • Demonstrated ability to automate, re-engineer processes, and challenge the status quo
