The Director of Franchise Operations leads a team of Business Consultants to achieve the portfolio operating plan and business performance goals. The DFO sets targets and coaches Business Consultants to provide consultative support to franchisees on sales, profit, and network growth, ensuring that franchisee goals are achieved or exceeded. The DFO identifies, plans for, and provides solutions or support to Business Consultants and Franchisees.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary liaison for franchisees and field teams in Emerging Markets while quarterbacking expansion initiatives in emerging DMAs to ensure speed-to-market, operational readiness, and successful implementation of the Emerging Market Strategy, contributing to future growth plans.
- Develop new market entry plans for Dunkin’ to achieve cross-functional “system readiness” to successfully open in multiple new markets with multiple new franchisees.
- Collaborate with Sr. Managers of Emerging Markets and cross-functional teams to align strategies with the One Inspire Model and National Strategy.
- Lead market reset initiatives and develop market-level plans to accelerate top-line sales, optimize station layouts for operational efficiency, and strengthen community presence, driving improved performance and profitability in emerging markets. Partner with cross-functional teams and franchisees to overcome barriers to topline growth, seamless execution, deeper market penetration and improved franchisee profitability.
- Achieve the operations and business performance goals for their portfolio of Franchisees, as set by brand leadership.
- Facilitate Annual Planning and Franchise Business Review process with Franchisees and their assigned Business Consultants to assess performance based on previous goals and commitments, and to align on future goals and commitments.
- Provide coaching to the Business Consultants to support Franchisees in meeting annual goals.
- Provide coaching to Business Consultants to support personal and professional development.
- Track, review, and analyze on-going data and analytics to guide Business Consultant and Franchisee actions toward their goals, commitments, and plans. Interpret data to provide coaching and recommendations on priorities for Franchisee to address.
- Lead Business Consultants in strategic and complex Franchisee conversations, building and strengthening relationships with Franchisees, and demonstrating desired consultative behaviors.
- Facilitate the involvement of Inspire functional groups to provide the correct resources to Business Consultants to assist franchisees (Construction & Development, Marketing, Legal, IT, Finance, etc.).
- Collaborate across the Brand to identify gaps and determine training needs for Franchisees and Business Consultants with the Inspire Learning and Development team.
- Ensure the effective use of G&A expenses within parameters set by regional leads.
- Complete all responsible administrative functions and requirements of the position in a timely manner.
Preferred Education Level
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent
Experience Qualifications
- Ten plus years restaurant or retail management experience with multi-unit leadership and supervisory experience
Required Knowledge, Skills or Ability
- Thorough understanding and knowledge of restaurant operations
- Strong leadership skills, including ability to provide vision, motivate team and ensure accountability
- Sound business and financial acumen
- Excellent consultative and coaching skills
- Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
- Able to handle complex issues and difficult conversations
- Must be able to build credibility and trusting relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Able to develop and execute plans to drive results

- Knowledgeable about process of development and construction
- Entrepreneurial with balance of strategic and operational skills

- Has limited decision-making authority within existing policy guidelines
Travel Required
- Yes, must be willing to travel to consult with portfolio of franchisees, based upon the needs of the portfolio.
