Manage and assist in bringing proper resolution to workers’ compensation claims by balancing our employee’s needs while protecting the financial interests of the Company.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Report, investigate, manage, and resolve workers’ compensation claims for assigned states and lines of business.
  • Provide direction and support to insurance carrier claims adjusters and defense attorneys to resolve claims tendered to the insurance company for handling.
  • Assist with or lead management of internal processes (e.g., document/video collection, interview coordination, communication with outside counsel and insurer, etc.) needed to support workers’ compensation claims investigations.
  • Assist the Claims Manager in identifying claim trends and developing safety
  • recommendations to mitigate the company’s overall cost of risk.
  • Partner with the Risk Analyst/Manager and Director in updating reports for the monthly financial and claim trend reporting.
  • Serve as coverage backup, as needed, for the Risk Team.
  • Support the Risk Management department on risk-related projects.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum 4-year degree, preferably in risk management & insurance, or equivalent work experience.
  • 3+ years managing casualty claims in the Risk Management department, third-party administrator or insurance company claims department preferred.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, or ABILITIES

  • A strong knowledge of workers’ compensation laws, rules, and regulations.
  • Basic knowledge of insurance policies and terms, especially workers’ compensation and automobile insurance.
  • Effective negotiation skills when managing and negotiating claims tendered to the Company’s insurance carriers.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Possess outstanding customer service skills.
  • Professional writing skills, including editing and proofing and the ability to use correct sentence structure and grammar.
  • Flexible team player with effective interpersonal skills. Knowledge of litigation processes and related documents. Basic knowledge of MS Office, including MS Excel and MS Word.
  • Experience with claim management systems, preferably Riskonnect. Industry designations such as AIC, CPCU, and ARM.
